TerraMetrics Awarded NASA Research Contract to Investigate Web-based Technologies for Geospatial Science Data Delivery Littleton, Colo.—TerraMetrics, Inc., announced today that it has been awarded a NASA Small Business Innovation Research contract to investigate and develop a web services architecture that stores, processes and delivers massive, multi-dimensional science data sets to web-based geospatial platforms such as Google Earth, and allows users to interact with this information. Part of the proposed work will focus on accommodating a wide range of client and connection types from broad band-connected desktop computers to wireless cell phones. “Web-based platforms such as Google Earth, Microsoft’s Virtual Earth and NASA’s World Wind are making geospatial information available in new and exciting ways, and will play a key role in how this data is delivered and accessed in the future,” said TerraMetrics president Greg Baxes. “We’re pleased to partner with NASA in making science data more available to researchers, educators and the public.” Under a separate NASA contract, TerraMetrics is currently researching and developing TerraBlocks™—an innovative technology for flight 3D terrain visualization that includes compact storage of large-area terrain and imagery datasets, such as the continental U.S. TerraMetrics has also completed contract work for NASA in terrain rendering and global earth imagery. The company’s TruEarth® 15-meter global imagery is widely used by simulation, visualization, mapping and animation communities. For more information, visit TerraMetrics at www.terrametrics.com
